$500 Direct Stimulus Checks: Which States Are Issuing Them and When

The packages that different states are rolling out give each resident financial aid amidst the economic hardship pangs. The stimulus checks are aimed at cushioning the rising cost of living, mainly for low-income homes. As specific to a particular state, these programs grant or offer an average of about $500, garnered from social assistance projects and programs for guaranteed income.

What makes Alaska stand apart is the existence of its own Alaska Permanent Fund. Started in 1976, the APF is a permanent fund created through the Alaska Permanent Fund Corporation by constitutional mandate.

Dividends from the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System and other state-specific sources form this fund.

Residents would receive up to $1,312 from the 2023 allocation in 2024. Applications for the 2023 Permanent Fund Dividend are still open until the end of the year.
The system runs until all eligible residents have applied, meaning that those that have a status as “Eligible-Not Paid” as of July 10, 2024, will receive the payment on July 18, 2024.

San Francisco

Several California cities have launched projects designed to help residents bargain with the rise in living costs. Fresno County will start a Guaranteed Income project for 150 people in which participants would get monthly payments of $500 for a period of 12 months, beginning on July 15. Pomona has one ongoing at the moment and more launching soon.

OrteDetroit

Ann Arbor, Michigan, does it differently. Under a Guaranteed Income program operated by a team at the University of Michigan’s Poverty Solutions, about 100 businesses will get $528 this July. This study puts its eye on small enterprises rather than families, looking to examine several effects.

New York Rochest, New York, is also addressing high costs of living through a guaranteed income program. Thousands of residents will still receive $500 in monthly payments through December. It is a one-year program that continues for one year.  

Texas

Over 2,000 families in Texas have been aided by the Uplift Harris program. This initiative gives $500 each month to every family that was chosen for eighteen months. This program aims to offer people experiencing poverty ongoing financial assistance.  

Washington

The Growing Resilience in Tacoma (GRIT) project guarantees that Tacoma, Washington, residents continue to receive $500 stimulus checks this July. This comes as part of a broader move to support households in the surrounding area.

Although federal stimulus efforts associated with the epidemic have largely concluded, these state efforts provide a new source of funds. These programs afford a safety net during times of economic hardship and help Americans in keeping their living expenses within limits by way of monthly payments.

The goal is to provide the most relief and stability for the people as states continue to operate and expand these programs so that every resident is equipped to assist their family and themselves.
