The month of August is here and that means this month’s Social Security payments will soon be arriving in bank accounts. Due to the sequence of days this month it may seem like it is taking a little longer for you to receive your payment, so we will explain this in detail and let you know when you can receive your payment. If you’re still waiting for your July check, learn why it hasn’t arrived and what you can do about it.
The date you receive your money depends on your birthday and when you started receiving Social Security benefits.
Keep reading and learn whether you should expect a check this week, as well as how your payment date is determined. Know more about this by becoming familiar with the maximum amount of Social Security money that one can have each month, and how benefits are applied for.
When will I get my August Social Security check?
Below, you’ll find the August schedule of when you should receive your Social Security check or SSDI money.
August payment schedule:
- August 2: Social Security payments for people who received Social Security before May 1997.
- August 14: Social Security payments for people whose birthdays fall between the 1st and 10th of the month.
- August 21: Social Security payments for people whose birthday falls between the 11th and 20th of the month.
- August 28: Social Security payments for people whose birthday falls between the 21st and 31st of the month.
How does the agency determine my Social Security payment date?
The Social Security Administration typically sends out payments on the second, third and fourth Wednesday of each month. The day you get your check depends on your birthday.
- If your birthday is between the 1st and 10th of the month, your payment will be sent on the 2nd Wednesday of the month.
- If your birthday is between the 11th and 20th of the month, your payment will be sent on the 3rd Wednesday of the month.
- If your birthday falls between the 21st and the end of the month, your payment will be sent on the 4th Wednesday of the month.
As a general rule, most SSI recipients get their payments on the first day of every month, with some exceptions that we will discuss below.
Will I receive both Social Security and SSI payments on the same day?
If you started receiving Social Security benefits before May 1997, or if you receive both Social Security and SSI, the payment schedule is different. Instead, you will receive a Social Security payment on the 3rd of every month and an SSI payment on the 1st of every month.
These payment dates change if the 1st or 3rd of the month falls on a weekend or holiday. For example, March 3 fell on a weekend, so Social Security recipients received their March payments two days earlier, on March 1.
What if I don’t receive my Social Security check?
If your check does not arrive on the date above – or does not arrive at all – the Social Security Administration recommends waiting three additional mailing days. After this, you can speak to a representative at 800-772-1213. (SSA notes that wait times are longer between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and shorter on weekdays.)
